Waiting

The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. -Lamentations 3:25-26

LENT DEVOTIONS

We are a history household. Everyone in our family, like it or not, talks about history, reads about history, and even goes on trips to learn and see more history. This past summer it was a no-brainer that we should visit our nation’s capital so we could learn a little more history. One of our stops was the Holocaust Museum. While this is a somber history stop, we felt it was important for the girls to see the devastation and God’s hand at work despite terrible circumstances. As we were walking through, I couldn’t help but think about how it must have felt for those being held in the concentration camps to wait. Day after day they waited to see what the next would bring. Each day they would wait.

Today we don’t wait for much. Our online orders arrive within two days, information is at our fingertips, and we have the means to get places rather quickly. There are not many things we wait for but when we have to it can be very hard. Waiting for test results from the doctor or waiting for a loved one to pass who is suffering can seem to take forever. All these things make me think about the bible. Abraham and Sarah waited around 25 years for the birth of Isaac, Joseph waited 13 years from being sold into slavery to working for Pharaoh, Moses waited 40 years, and many their entire lifetimes to have the promised Savior come. Sometimes God just needs us to wait. His timing is perfect, and the wait will be worth it. Thank goodness He has fulfilled the promise of the Savior and now all we wait for is His triumphant return. So, as you call out to God today in prayer remember He might just need you to wait.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we anxiously await your triumphant return. Please help us to wait and remember all the promises you have already fulfilled. Allow us to help others during their waits and enjoy the fellowship of waiting together. In Your Most Holy Name, Amen.
