I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” - Genesis 12:3

All of us probably have several movies that if we are flipping through the station and see it we sit and watch it. One of those movies for me is Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I always appreciate the excitement and story lines of all the Indiana Jones movies, but this one in particular is extra entertaining and intriguing to me. I appreciate the story line of in 1938, after Indiana Jones' father goes missing while pursuing the Holy Grail, Indiana Jones finds himself up against the Nazis again to stop them from obtaining the power of the Holy Grail. There is one particular line in the movie that every time I watch it makes me think about my life and actions. As Indiana Jones is being chased by people in the canals of Venice he has an encounter with Kazim, one of the protectors of the Holy Grail. Kazim asks Indy, "Ask yourself, why do you seek the Cup of Christ? Is it for His glory, or for yours?" to which Indy replies, "I didn't come for the Cup of Christ. I came to find my father," This quote is highlighting his selfless motive. Are we doing things in this life for God’s glory or for our own glory? Are we having selfish motives or selfless motives?
Genesis 12:3 says; “I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” What is so incredible about this verse is the fact that it says that God will bless those who keep Christ first in their actions and words. What this means is that we can't be selective with our actions and words, we need to make sure that in every aspect of our life we are doing things to HIS glory not our glory. We need to make sure that we are putting others first, treating people the way that we would want to be treated, we also need to focus on building people up and not tearing them down. In doing so we will be blessed by the Lord. So the next time you are doing something or saying something, think to yourself am I glorifying God or glorifying myself?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help us to keep you first in our actions and words. Remind us that all we do is for your glory so that others may see your greatness. Amen.
