The Road Ahead
“I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth.” -Isaiah 42:16

Recently on our drive to school, we had a morning of dense fog. One of those mornings when you can only see a few feet ahead of you, when you clutch the steering wheel, take it a little slower, and pray a little harder that a car doesn’t pop up right in front of you. I drive the same route to school every morning, but, on a morning with fog, the drive is unfamiliar. You don’t see the deer in the field on the right, the large family farm on the left, or the eagle flying to its nest in the woods. Although we take this drive daily, it felt like the first time driving it because it looks different with the dense fog covering the view, yet it was the same drive.
This verse reminds me that sometimes we don’t know the path we follow. We may have the same routine day after day, week after week, but we never know when God is going to throw a wrench into our plans. The problem with this sentence, is “our” plans. However, we do not need to fear or worry about this. God knows the plan for our day even before we wake up in the morning. He knows the path that he has given us, even if it is different from the path we take daily. We can take comfort in knowing that he will guide us down any path he takes us on, he will light that path, and even when we think the road is bumpy, he is in control and will smooth it for us.
Prayer:
Lord, please help me to understand that you are in control of the path you guide me on. You are all knowing and will always turn the darkness into light on the road ahead. Help me to trust your plan and path for me, even when the road seems unclear. Amen.
