The Name ofJesus
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. – Philippians 2:9-11.

What is your name? Everyone has a name or nickname that people call them by or remember them by. I answer to the name Mom, Mother, soon to be new Grandma, Honey, Mrs. Hagenow, Mrs. H., Ruth, and even Rachel. Yes, while growing up I was often called by my twin sister’s name, Rachel, and I responded to that also. Our names mean something to those who know us. We call someone by their name when we need their attention or help with something. It would be my hope and prayer that those who know my names would remember me for the life lessons that I have taught or shared with them as a mother, grandmother, teacher, or friend. More importantly, I hope that they would remember how important it is to know, Jesus, as their personal Lord and Savior.
God knows all of us by our names and will remember them forever. I can’t help but wonder what it will be like in heaven with no one wearing a name tag because Jesus will know us all by our names. I can only imagine what that will be like. In our baptism Jesus called us by name and welcomed us into His family. Jesus also remembers our names because He suffered and died for our sins. The name Jesus means, “God saves”. That is what He did when He hung on that tree. And that’s not all, Jesus did not stay dead. He rose to life. Our sins are forgiven, and we are set free. Because He lives, we will live forever with Him eternally if we believe in Him. Jesus is the name above all names and what a wonderful name it is. He is our Creator, Messiah, Savior, Redeemer, and King. What a Blessing to live in His presence 24/7. He walks beside us daily and is always with us bringing us comfort, healing, and peace. When we hear Jesus’ name we are reminded of His mercy, love, and grace that He bestows on us daily. When we call His name, Jesus, He is listening and ready to answer and help with whatever we need. Where would we be without Jesus? When I hear the name, Jesus, I am in awe. His name is powerful, and He is so worthy of our praise and thanksgiving.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to always know and understand more clearly the meaning of the name of your son, Jesus and what He has done and is still doing for us. Thank you, Jesus, for your love, forgiveness, grace, and mercy that you willingly give to us always. May you be praised and honored forever. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
