My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27

LENT DEVOTIONS

This Bible verse brings back many memories to me of growing up on a family farm in central Wisconsin. We owned sheep from the time I was in Kindergarten. One winter we had a sheep that had her lambs in the dead of winter. She abandoned her lambs and we were able to rescue one that we raised in the warmth of our home until it was warm enough for her to survive outside. Her name was Nammer. Whenever we went outside and she heard us, no matter where she was, she would come running to the fence and look for us to pet her. She loved us and knew that we would feed her, take care of her, and give her love and attention.

As I relate the above memory to this Bible verse, I have the image of the Lord as my good shepherd. He rescued me, a poor and condemned sinner, from all of my enemies, loves me, and cares for me. I know that in the good times and the bad times I can run to Him and He will help me with all of my troubles, rejoice with me in the good times, lead me, and guide me in the path that He has planned for me. There may be times where we try to do things on our own and don’t listen to God, but He is always there to welcome us back with open arms, just as a shepherd would with his sheep.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank you for being our good shepherd and rescuing us from the pit of despair and darkness. Help us to be willing to listen to Your Word and follow you throughout all the days of our lives. Amen
