Names of God

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. -Isaiah 9:6

Names of God Devotions begin March 5, 2025

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord…I believe in the Holy Spirit. These familiar words of the Apostles’ Creed tell us of the triune God with direct names, Father, Son, Spirit; however, the Bible lists so many names for the one true God. As we journey through Lent, we will look at 5 names of God including Immanuel, The Good Shepherd, Christ (the anointed), Jesus (the Lord saves), Lamb of God, Alpha and Omega and what they mean for our lives as Christians. These names show us what kind of God we believe in. Not only an all-powerful creator, not only the redeemer, but a sacrificial lamb, a God who exists outside of time, and a God that leads us by still waters. While this is not comprehensive of all names found in scripture, these names will show us specifically our Savior that we journey through Lent with – to the cross, then the grave, and finally, eternal life.
