How often do we catch ourselves asking someone, “What do you want for your birthday?” or “What do you want for Christmas?” Or even better, when you have kids, they are constantly wanting the newest toy, game, or movie. Now that I think of it, as adults, we too are always wanting something. Maybe it isn’t the same as our children’s wants, maybe we really wanted the Packers to win the Superbowl, or we really want a new car or bigger house, but is our want necessary?

This is such a common and well-known verse from Psalm; however, it is so basic and simple. “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.” We are told in this Psalm from David, simply that we have Jesus guiding us and that we should not want anything more than that. The Good Shepherd provides for us in all the ways that we need, spiritually, physically, emotionally. Even if we had all the Earthly things that we want, it would not fill our cup, because the only way our cup can be filled, is through following our Shepherd, Jesus. If we have Jesus leading us, then we have all that we need.

Please pray with me.

Heavenly Father, help me to be content with the Earthly possessions that you provide for me daily. Thank you for sending Jesus, the Good Shepherd to lead me and fill every part of my life. Amen.
