Consequences

“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” - Genesis 3:15

We learn from a young age that there are consequences for our actions. Perhaps there are moments from your childhood that you remember to this day, and recall that you learned that you are to never make that same mistake again because of the consequences of your actions or words. There are definitely consequences for what took place in the Garden between Adam, Eve, and the Serpent. However, God speaks first, not about the consequence, but the promise.

While sin and death enter the world as a consequence of their actions, God makes a promise to His people that He is sending one to defeat those consequences and bring life. God’s first act following the fall is to promise life and salvation through a Savior for His people, and He has kept that promise for us in Jesus. Remember that we are dust and dust we shall return, but through Christ, God restores us unto life everlasting!

Prayer:
Dear God, we know that there are consequences for our wrongdoings in this world, and we confess those sins before you. Yet we give thanks to you that you continue to share words of forgiveness to us, and grant us life in Jesus. Amen.
