Confusion
But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. -Matthew 28:5–6

Have you ever gone to visit someone, expecting them to be in a particular place only to find that they are not there? How do you feel when you discover that the one you are looking for is nowhere to be found? It is probably a mixture of confusion, disappointment, surprise, and maybe even frustration. Now imagine how the two Marys felt when they went to see their friend who had died, only to find an empty tomb. They must have felt all of those emotions and more magnified to the max. In the midst of this whirlwind there is an angel that tells the women something absolutely unbelievable, “Jesus is alive, he is risen.”
The women, filled with confusion, disbelief, surprise, and whatever else they were feeling depart from the tomb and find their friend who they thought was dead, alive and well. Now imagine how they felt. Confusion turns to awe, disappointment turns to hope, frustration turns to joy. This is the power of Christ’s resurrection. He transforms those who come to him, those who believe in him.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ has transformed you. When you were called to faith through the waters of Holy Baptism, the new life of the resurrection was shared with you and in an instant you were transformed. Despair replaced with joy, doubt replaced with faith, fear replaced by comfort, death replaced by life.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank you for raising Jesus from the dead and for giving us new life through his resurrection. Help us to celebrate this Easter with joy, remaining focused on Jesus and what he has done for us. Amen.
