Christ Like
You yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. -Acts 10:37-38
LENT DEVOTIONS

When I signed up to write this devotion, I thought “Christ the Anointed, easy. I’ve heard that term forever, I’ve got this.” Only after sitting down to write it, did my confidence waiver when I realized I didn’t actually know what it meant to be anointed. A quick Google search tells us that to be anointed is a religious ceremony done with oil in order to dedicate ourselves to God. Reading that after reading the passage above, I realized what an earthly definition I was given.
While, for show, other ceremonies may show our dedication to Christ, the ultimate anointment happened at our baptism. We didn’t need fancy materials, just humble water and the Word.
Jesus being anointed at His baptism and going forth to do good should be our example to use the cleansing of our baptisms to be like Christ the Anointed to move through our lives showing others that we are Christians by our love.
So, the next time you see a baptism in church, or even when you remember your own baptism, use it as a reminder to be more like Christ and to be an example of Christ to others.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to use the example of Christ being anointed through baptism to go through my own life being an example of Christ to others. Amen
